Streamlining Real-Time Supply Chain Tracking with Data Flow Manager
Our client operates as a leading automobile manufacturer in the US, renowned for producing high-performing vehicles. From parts procurement & assembly to distribution & after-sales service, our client oversees end-to-end aspects of the manufacturing process. They source various vehicle parts from multiple suppliers. To keep track of the entire supply chain process, our client leverages Apache NiFi, a flow-based real-time & batch data processing engine. They were seeking a solution to facilitate Apache NiFi’s real-time data processing to gain real-time visibility into the supply chain to ensure timely deliveries, optimize production schedules, and maintain high product quality.
The major challenges encountered by our automobile manufacturing client are:
- Complex Data Flow Management: Our client designed data flows to ingest and process data from a wide variety of sources, such as sensors on vehicles, GPS systems, and RFID tags on parts. To make these data flows operational, they relied on the manual deployment process, which is time-consuming and error-prone. This inefficiency hindered the client’s ability to track supply chain data in real time and respond swiftly to emerging challenges.
- Inconsistent Data Flow Configurations: Deploying a data flow from a low-level NiFi environment to a higher level demands adjusting configurations, such as database URLs, APIs, security credentials, etc. This is because each NiFi cluster has unique configurations. Without any automated solution, our client tuned these configurations manually, leading to inconsistencies in data processing. This caused inaccuracies in real-time supply chain tracking.
- Scalability Issues: As our client expanded the supplier network, the volume and complexity of data increased. Consequently, it became challenging for their NiFi DevOps to scale data flows across clusters efficiently.
- Delayed Response to Supply Chain Disruptions: With delayed visibility into supply chain data, the client did not respond promptly to any challenges or disruptions in the supply chain process. Many times, the issues escalated, leading to expenses.
